A 30-day dusk- to -dawn curfew have been imposed by the government in Marsabit to reduce the inter-ethnic attacks that have led to violence and death of many in the area.
Speaking after chairing a security meeting at the General Service Unit headquarters, the Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i said that anyone who moves while the curfew is on force will be treated as dangerous and the security sector will deal with them.
“A very stiff security activity will be moved in that sub-county where those illegal activities are happening. Anyone going around past curfew time will be assumed to be armed, dangerous and the security will deal with you,” Matiang’i said.
He stated that there is an option of extending the 6pm-6am curfew until sanity prevails and until they stop the senseless loss of lives in the county. He also pointed out that the leaders in the area none of them is innocent and each of them have an access to illegal firearms just because they are in a conflict region and due to that, they have taken advantage of the bandits which have unfortunately led to loss of innocent lives.
The operation will be in the hands of GSU, The Quick Response Unit, Anti-stock Theft Unit and The Rapid Deployment Unit.
