CALL FOR MORE RELIGIOUS LEADERHIP

RUNDOWN
• Anglican Archbishop is now calling on President William Ruto to appoint more leaders to various public institutions.
• The archbishop also urged the government to ensure the new people who take over the positions have integrity and called for more religious leaders to be appointed.

Jackson Ole Sapit Anglican Archbishop is now calling on President William Ruto to appoint more leaders to various public institutions.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday while opening a school in Kericho County, Sapit praised the outgoing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners, whose term has lapsed, for what he called honouring the constitution.

“Every institution should strive to serve Kenyans diligently. We know some of the IEBC commissioners’ terms ended. It is good to see that we are upholding the constitution and people are leaving office when their terms end,” the archbishop said.

The archbishop also urged the government to ensure the new people who take over the positions have integrity and called for more religious leaders to be appointed adding that clergymen will win public confidence of government institutions.

“As we pray for whoever will take over IEBC, we look forward to independent institutions which serve without discrimination and favourism, which win public confidence, even when we religious leaders are put such positions, Kenyans will have confidence that whoever has been put there is doing the work properly,” Sapit said.

Aside from the IEBC commissioners, Archbishop Eliud Wabukala’s term as Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) chairperson also ended on Tuesday who was appointed to the position by former President Uhuru Kenyatta through a Gazette notice on January 18, 2017.
