Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu is on Wednesday expected to release the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results.
Machogu is expected to present a report of the results to President William Ruto at State House, before announcing the results at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) headquarters at Mtihani House, Nairobi.
KCPE candidates sat for their exams between November 28 and November 30 as Grade six students were sitting for the first Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) test under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
2, 531, 785 candidates across Kenya took the exams, 1,244, 188 of whom were KCPE candidates while 1, 287,597 were Grade Six pupils.
After releasing the KCPE results on Wednesday, the Education Ministry will also give a way forward to the Grade Six students.
This is after President Ruto directed that the KPSEA examination shall not be used to determine the placement of pupils to Junior Secondary School (JSS) as expected.
According to Ruto, KPSEA will instead be used to scrutinise learning progress and provide feedback to education sector players on areas of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) that require intervention.
The President further directed that the junior secondary schools – Grade 7, Grade 8 and Grade 9 – be domiciled in the existing primary schools.
“The Ministry of Education will provide the necessary guidelines on how this will be done,” a statement issued by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on December 1 read in part.
