It is now 59 years since Kenya became a republic where President William Ruto will lead national celebrations at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
The event is expected to have around 20,000 guests whose theme is Connect, innovate and inspire which according to the president instead of the usual people this time the people who were invited are the technology leaders worldwide from Facebook and Google.
At the Nyayo stadium, gates were opened as early as 6:00 am to allow the public access to the stadium with the security checks tight.
According to the program, the event was officially set to start at 9:00 am with Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo earlier stating that all Kenyans are welcome to the event and that adequate preparations had been put in place to ensure the success of the event which will be the first Jamhuri celebrations since President William Ruto took over the country’s leadership.
“The celebrations will begin earlier than usual. We expect everybody to be seated by 8 am. We are calling upon Kenyans to come early so that then we can have a good and beautiful Jamhuri day celebration,” PS Omollo said.
The President announced thematic celebrations, revealing that this year’s Jamhuri Day will be about Kenya’s growth in the Information, Communication, and Technology sectors.
“The slogan will be to connect, innovate and inspire. What we have done is we have launched a weeklong celebration that was launched on Thursday at the sari Centre by president William Ruto and we have also aggressively involved guys in the ICT sector,” Omollo added.
The Jamhuri Day celebrations are held annually to commemorate the day Kenya became a republic.
Kenya was granted self-governance by the British colonial regime on December 12, 1963, a year before the country gained independence with founding leader Mzee Jomo Kenyatta as Head of State.
