Liverpool FC has reached champions league history having won the competition five times. They triumphed in Rome in 1977 vs Borussia Monchengladbach and then at Wembley in 1978 over Bruges. Further victories followed pin Paris in 1981 against Real Madrid and then Rome in 1984 against Roma in their own stadium.

Probably their greatest win was the fifth against AC Milan in a historic match in Istanbul on penalties after battling back from 3-0 down in 2005. They have gone a long way to recreating the glories of the past under Jurgen Klopp, reaching the semifinals of the 2017-2018 champions league against Roma at least, with some stunning victories along the way.

However, Michael Owen has praised Liverpool’s ability to stay in games after they ground out a 2-0 win over Inter Milan yesterday evening.

They travelled to the San Siro for their last 16 champions league clash seeking a second win in the famous old stadium this season after beating AC Milan in the group stage of the competition.

However, the game appeared to be heading to a goalless draw until second half substitute Roberto Firmino fired Jurgen Klopp’s side in front in the 75th minute.

Liverpool had to ride their luck at times with inter wasting good opportunities to take the lead through Hakan Calhanoglu and Ivan Perisic in particular, but Owen hailed the Reds’ resiliency and believes they got their reward for a determined display.
