The State has invited members of the public to view the body of freedom veteran Mukami Kimathi on Saturday, May 13, at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
Dr. Raymond Omollo, Interior Principal and the chairperson of the National Organising Committee tasked with arrangements of the burial, said the viewing will take place from 6 am to 7 am.
Mukami’s burial will be held on the same day at her rural home in Njabini, Nyandarua County.
“Those who wish to pay tribute can sign condolence books at Mukami’s home in Njabini and Harambee House, Nairobi,” Omollo stated.
Dedan Kimathi’s wife died last Saturday, May 5, while receiving treatment at a Nairobi Hospital. She was age 96.
According to her daughter Nyawira Kimathi, the freedom veteran was admitted to the hospital after developing breathing difficulties.
Mukami was among Mau Mau freedom fighters detained at Kimathi Maximum Prison during Kenya’s struggle for independence.
The late Dedan Kimathi’s wife will be remembered for pushing the State to locate her husband’s body which is interred in an unmarked grave at Kamiti Maximum Prison.
