Eight people dead while 21 others hospitalized with serious injuries after an accident involving a trailer and two matatus occurred at Ngata Bridge on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway on Tuesday.
According to police reports, the trailer which was heading to Nakuru from Eldoret lost control and run into two matatus that were heading towards Eldoret.
The accident caused heavy traffic along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway which had to be decongested by traffic police.
A report from Dr. Aisha Maina, a medical doctor from Nakuru Level 5 Hospital confirmed that 21 people have been admitted at the hospital with very serious injuries.
Eyewitnesses have blamed the accident on poor road condition near Ngata Bridge which has now become a blackspot.
Tuesday’s accident is one of the many accidents that have occurred at the Ngata blackspot resulting to many casualties and deaths.
On November 26, five students from the Rift Valley Institute of Agriculture and Technology perished in an early morning accident after a lorry rammed into the matatu they were travelling in.
At the same spot on December 2018, former Chief Justice David Maraga and his wife narrowly survived an accident at the Ngata Bridge.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), on December 1, cautioned public transport and long-distance operators against disregarding traffic rules during the festive season.
