The main suspects behind the case where baby Sagini a 3 year old boy from Kisii County had his eyes gouged out have been arrested.
The arrest of the suspect comes after police arrested baby Sagini’s mother Maureen Nyaboke for child negligence.
According to the police, the 28 year old has been working as a barmaid in Nyamakoroto in Gesima Ward, Nyamira County and left her son in the hands of his step father before the incident happened.
The suspect identified as Alex Maina Ochoki, was arrested on Monday by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and is being held at Marani police station.
According to police investigators, Maina and his mother Pacifica gouged out Baby Sagini’s eyes to be used for rituals.
Three other suspects connected to the incident – a form 3 student from a local school, a middle-aged man and a woman- went through a 10-hour interrogation before being released on Sunday evening for lack of evidence.
Baby Sagini was found on Thursday with his face covered with blood after being kidnapped on Wednesday evening.
The boy who was said to be playing with other children outside his grandmother’s was reportedly abducted by the assailants at 6pm and was later found dumped at his family’s banana plantation.
He was then rushed to the Kisii Eye Hospital where he is currently recuperating after undergoing a surgical procedure. Doctors declared the three year old boy blind after being unable to restore his eyesight since eyes were completely gouged out.
Sagini is currently in stable condition and ready to be discharged.
